2023 End of Year Review

Looking back at the previous years' numbers is something I enjoy doing each January, because I think it's a valuable tool to utilize in assessing and strategizing for the year ahead.

In 2023, our agency conducted 1,281 investigations and worked 282 traffic crashes, with just over 17% of them being injury crashes.

We saw a 61% decrease in Aggravated Assaults and Batteries from 2022 and a decrease in thefts when compared to the 5-Year Average.

Last year we also started tracking our case solvability and I'm proud of our team for having a 5% solvability rate higher than the National Average for Thefts and a 16% higher solvability rate than the National Average for Burglaries.

In our Communications Division, we handled over 86,000 calls, which included 7,795 emergency 911 calls.

In addition, Communications Officers managed 407,999 radio transmissions by our deputies, investigators and other area public safety partners.

Our agency generated $205,670.00 by housing out of county inmates and our Corrections Deputies processed and managed 1,188 inmates, 75.5% were men.

Arrests by agency were: Sheriff's Office - 545, Baxter Springs Police - 244, Galena Police - 147, Columbus Police - 63, other entities - 189.

In addition to the revenue generated from housing out of county inmates, the Sheriff's Office secured nearly $310,000.00 in new grant funding.
