Man Found Dead After Being Struck By Train

The Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a fatality, which occurred this morning on the railroad tracks north of Coalvalley Road and East of Kansas Highway 7 in northern Cherokee County.

At approximately 5:25 a.m., emergency personnel were dispatched to that area after being contacted by the railroad company.

Upon their arrival, it was discovered that a man, identified as Shanon D. Devore, 30, of Pittsburg, had been struck by a train and was deceased.

The preliminary investigation indicates that Devore had been fishing and camping at a nearby pit throughout the night.

An autopsy has been scheduled and the investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death is ongoing at this time.
