Scammon Residents Facing Murder Charges

On May 15, 2015, at approximately 11:21 a.m., the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office received a call regarding a vehicle on fire approximately 1.5 miles east of K7 Highway on Belleview Road in rural Cherokee County.

Columbus and Scammon Fire Departments, along with Cherokee County Sheriff’s Deputies, arrived on scene and discovered the body of 59 year-old Robin L. Fought, of Dennis, Kansas.

Investigators with the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office along with the Kansas State Fire Marshal’s Office and the Kansas Bureau of Investigation processed the scene and began investigating the circumstances surrounding the fire and death.  It was determined that Mr. Fought had been intentionally killed.

The investigation led law enforcement to conduct a search warrant on a Scammon home and probable cause was established leading Cherokee County Attorney Nathan Coleman to file 2nd Degree Intentional Murder charges against 36 year-old Crystal Galloway and 18 year-old Dakota Cunningham.

Late Saturday night, information was obtained by investigators that led them to believe the suspects were in a rural area of Ottawa County, Oklahoma.

Just after 5:00 a.m. on Sunday morning, officers with the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office and the Oklahoma Highway Patrol placed the suspects under arrest.  They were both transported to the Ottawa County Jail, in lieu of $100.000.00 bond each, where they remain pending extradition to Kansas.

While the investigation is ongoing, no additional arrests are anticipated at this time.
