Drug Take Back Event a Success

09/28/2015

The Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office was proud to provide yet another opportunity for area residents to safely discard any unused, unwanted or expired prescription drugs this past Saturday, as part of the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration’s nationwide Drug Take Back Event.

Deputies were at Apple Market in Columbus, Marvin’s IGA in Baxter Springs and the Galena City Hall from 9:00 to noon on Saturday morning.  Thanks to the community’s continued support for this program, approximately 370 pounds of medications were turned over to the DEA on Monday morning for safe disposal.

“Our office is proud to be part of this program, which gives residents a method to safely dispose of prescription drugs and provides an alternative to introducing those drugs into our waterways or allow them to sit in medicine cabinets where they can be stolen, abused or accidently ingested by small children,” stated Cherokee County Sheriff David Groves.
