On March 9th, 2025, the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office received a call from 1776 NW Highway 7, reference to a physical disturbance. The caller advised that a person on scene had been shot.  Upon arrival, Deputies found that gun shots had been fired, however no one had been struck by a bullet.  Deputies determined that two people had left the scene and that one of them had possibly been stabbed. 

 

The injured subject was located a short distance from the original scene, and it was discovered that he had been stabbed.  The 23-year-old male was transported to Mercy hospital in Columbus and was later transferred to Mercy Hospital in Joplin, MO by a Med Flight helicopter in critical condition. 

 

This incident is being investigated by the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office and more details will be released as they become available.  The Kansas Highway Patrol and Columbus Fire Department assisted with this incident.
