Suspect Arrested in November Bomb Threat Case
02/09/2010
At approximately 4:00 p.m., on February 9, 2010, investigators with the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office arrested Stacey Benedict, 30, of Scammon.
Benedict is being held in custody without bond for Criminal Threat.
The arrest stems from an investigation into a bomb threat, which was called in to the Cherokee County Courthouse on November 24, 2009.
“During the course of this investigation, our office determined that Ms. Benedict made the bomb threat in an effort to have the courthouse closed, so an acquaintance of hers would not have to appear at a scheduled meeting with his probation officer.”
“This type of criminal activity is not only dangerous, but an extreme waste of taxpayer dollars and an inconvenience to county employees, residents attempting to conduct business in the courthouse, and merchants with stores neighboring the courthouse.”
- David Groves, Cherokee County Sheriff
