Online Services Provided by the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office
05/27/2022
In an effort to provide a variety of services and information to the community, the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office maintains numerous programs available to, and accessible from, residents' cell phones.
"It's important for us, as a public safety agency, to interact with the citizens in a way that is most convenient for them. With nearly everyone having access to the internet at their fingertips, utilizing online and mobile platforms is one way the Sheriff's Office can provide information - or receive it - in near real time in most cases," according to Cherokee County Sheriff David Groves.
Some programs offered by the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office include:
VINE - Victim Information Notification Everyday: The VINE System allows residents or victims of crime to locate inmates who are incarcerated in county jails and also allows them to receive a text alert or email when the inmate is released from custody or when they are transferred to another facility. More information, or registering to receive notification about a specific inmate, can be found at www.vinelink.com. This service is provided for at no direct fee to users.
NIXLE Text Alert - Citizens can text their Cherokee County zip code to 888777. They can receive local weather alerts and also receive text notifications related to emergency events, such as evacuations, etc... This service is provided for at no direct fee to those who sign up.
Inmate Roster - A copy of the inmate roster is emailed out each morning. The roster shows those who were booked into the Cherokee County Jail along with the allegations they were booked on. In addition, inmates released from custody within the previous 48 hours are also listed. Those interested in receiving our agency Inmate Roster, by email or text or both, can visit www.cherokeecountykssheriff.com and click on "Sign Up for Alerts." This service is provided for at no direct fee to those who sign up. *Disclaimer: This is a system generated program through an electronic interface between our agency records management system and our website hosting company. Because of the method used by the website company to "capture" and publish new booking information from the RMS at various points each hour of the day, there are times when a suspects mugshot may not be displayed with the allegations they were booked in on.
Most Wanted Alerts - Recognizing the importance of our partnership and collaboration with the citizens we serve, the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office regularly updates our Most Wanted list with those fugitives who have outstanding felony warrants for their arrest. The Most Wanted list can be viewed on our agency website. Additionally, residents can sign up for email and text alerts which are sent out in an effort to solicit the public's help on locating particular fugitives. To sign up, just go to www.cherokeecountykssheriff.com and click on the "Sign Up for Alerts" tab. This service is provided for at no direct fee to those who sign up.
Offender Registration Notifications - Cherokee County Residents can view the addresses of publicly registered sex, drug and violent offenders using our OffenderWatch Program. Additionally, citizens can sign up to receive an email notification if a new offender moves within up to two miles of their home, child's daycare, city park, public swimming pool, grandparents home, and any other locations they would like monitored. Those interested in signing up can do so at our agency website, www.cherokeecountykssheriff.com and click on "Registered Offenders." From there, they will also see a variety of family safety tips. This service is provided at no direct fee to those who sign up.
Text to 911 - The Cherokee County Sheriff's Office Communications Division has the ability to receive and process Text to 911 as part of the Next Gen 911 System. It's recommended those who need emergency services call 911, but should the situation prevent someone in a crisis from doing so, texting is available. The Federal Communications Commission requires cell phone providers to offer this service at no cost to the user.
Press Releases - Residents have the ability to receive agency Press Releases at the same time traditional media outlets receive them. To receive press releases by email or text, just go to www.cherokeecountykssheriff.com and click on "Sign Up for Alerts." This service is provided for at no direct fee to those who sign up.
Submission of Crime Tips - Anyone with information related to criminal activity has the ability to submit an anonymous tip to the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office in two different ways. First, they can do so online at our agency website, www.cherokeecountykssheriff.com and click on the "Submit a Crime Tip" tab at the top of the page. Another option is to text 888777. Those choosing this method will need to type 'tip cherokee' followed by whatever information they are able to provide. This service is provided for at no direct fee to users.
Safe Virtual Neighborhood - The Cherokee County Sheriff's Office, through our partnership with OffenderWatch, offers residents the ability to download the OffenderWatch app at no cost. Parents who download the app on their mobile device and the devices of their family members will have the capability to see their child's location in relation to registered offenders' homes, even those outside of Cherokee County. Additionally, on the app, parents will find online safety information and tips on how to talk to children about offenders. While this service is free for iPhone and Android users, an upgraded paid service, "Protection Plus", is offered for just $10.00 per year per family (does not matter how many devices are added). With the Protection Plus Version, parents can receive a notification if their children are contacted online (by text, email, social media) by a registered sex offender. They will also be notified if their child is near a registered offender's home for a period of time.
Social Media - The Cherokee County Sheriff's Office values the partnership we have with members of our community and want to provide easily accessible ways to communicate with one another. With that in mind, the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office can be found on the following Social Media Platforms: Facebook - Cherokee County Sheriff's Office - Kansas, Twitter - @CKSO_Sheriff and on Instagram - cherokee_county_kansas_sheriff. Although we attempt to reply promptly to messages sent via social media, these accounts are not monitored 24 hours a day. This service is provided for at no direct fee to users.
